Educational Visit to CMU by Army Medical College Cadets under COME Program

On 30th April 2025, a group of 34 cadets accompanied by 2 instructors from the 4th Year MBBS Class of Army Medical College visited the Common Management Unit (CMU) as part of their Community Oriented Medical Education (COME) program.

The visit offered the students a valuable opportunity to gain firsthand insights into national efforts for the control and prevention of infectious diseases, with a particular focus on Tuberculosis (TB), HIV, and Malaria.

The engagement aimed to strengthen their understanding of public health interventions and foster interest in preventive medicine.

UK FCDO and Pakistan’s CMU Align on Long-Term Health Priorities and Global Health Initiatives

A meeting was held today between the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) – Global Health Directorate (GHD) Mission and the National Coordinator CMU along with his team to discuss Pakistan’s long-term health priorities amid shifting aid dynamics, and the UK’s Global Health Initiative (GHI) priorities, including support for the Lusaka Agenda, PHC strengthening, UHC, and sustainability of disease programs. Upcoming GHI replenishments and technical assistance for improved health outcomes were also explored.

Pakistan–UK Health Meeting Explores Synergies on UHC, PHC, and Disease Program Sustainability

A meeting was held on 28th April 2025 between the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (Mo NHSR&C) and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) – Global Health Directorate (GHD) Mission. The discussions focused on Pakistan’s long-term health priorities in light of evolving aid dynamics and the UK’s Global Health Initiative (GHI) objectives. Key areas of deliberation included support for the Lusaka Agenda, strengthening Primary Health Care (PHC), advancing progress toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC), and ensuring the sustainability of disease-specific programs.

Joint Mission Meeting on Pediatric HIV Cases Held in Taunsa Sharif under Directives of CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif

Joint Mission Meeting Held in Taunsa Sharif on Reported HIV Cases Among Children, Following Special Instructions from Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif

The meeting was chaired by Secretary of the Department of Health and Population Welfare, Ms. Nadia Saqib.

The objective of the meeting was to conduct a detailed review of the reported HIV cases among children in Taunsa and to consult on timely and effective response measures.

During the meeting, there was an in-depth discussion on the preliminary investigations and actions taken following the increase in HIV cases in Taunsa.

In addition, necessary steps were considered to understand the causes of HIV infection and to address their root causes.

The meeting also discussed the direction of further actions needed to control the situation.

Furthermore, there was discussion on the need for resource allocation to strengthen the service delivery infrastructure.

An introductory meeting of Mr. Richard Cunliffe, Project Manager of the Global Fund HIV Project Management Unit at UNDP Pakistan with National Coordinator CMU, held on 10 April 2025, in CMU. 

The meeting covered a range of HIV program-related matters. The National Coordinator assured Mr. Richard of his full support and commitment to enhanced coordination. The meeting concluded with appreciative remarks from the UNDP Project Manager.

Pakistan and WHO Call for Urgent Investment to End Tuberculosis

26 March 2025, Islamabad, Pakistan – On the occasion of World Tuberculosis (TB) Day, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the MoNHSR&C-Common Management Unit, Ministry of Health Pakistan called on all partners to urgently invest in ending a deadly disease that affects over 686,000 people and causes 47,000 deaths annually in Pakistan. The country bears 73% of the tuberculosis burden in the Eastern Mediterranean Region and is the 5th most affected in the world.
Under the theme “Yes, We Can End TB – Commit, Invest, Deliver”, WHO and Pakistan commemorated the day, observed on 24 March, emphasizing the urgency of tackling the world’s deadliest infectious disease, which is curable and preventable.

Consultation with Religious Leaders on the Role of Opioid Agonist Maintenance Therapy (OAMT) in Combating the HIV Epidemic. The consultation was convened by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony (M/o RA & IH) in collaboration with CMU Ministry of NHSR&C and Ministry of Narcotics and UNAIDS. The consultation was chaired by Additional Secretary Minstry of RA& IFH, Dr. Syed Atta-ur-Rehman and addressed by Deputy Secretary Ministry of Narcotics , Mr. Abdul Salam Khetran, Director Controlled Drugs Division , Dr. Noor Muhammad Shah, National Coordinator CMU, Dr. Qasim Abbas and Key Religious Leaders emphasising the urgency and sustainability of OAMT in the country for prevention of HIV.
