World Tuberculosis Day 2023: Yes! We can end TB!

World TB Day 2023 is commemorated every year in the month of March. The day is designed to build public awareness that tuberculosis today remains an epidemic in much of the world, causing the deaths of several million people each year, mostly in the third world.
 
Like every year World TB Day was commemorated with full zest & zeal. Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (MNHSR&C); Common Management Unit (CMU) for AIDS, TB, and Malaria in collaboration with WHO and partners organized Walk and Seminar at PIMS Hospital, Islamabad.
 
Mr Mirza Nasir ud Din Mashhood Ahmad Special Secretary Health, Ministry of National Health services Regulations & Coordination was the chief Guest on the occasion. Mr Salman Shahid Additional Secretary, Dr Baseer Achakzai DG Health, Dr Palitha Mahipala WHO Representative, Dr Amir Khan Civil Society representative, Mr Mustafa Jamal Kazi National Coordinator Common Management Unit, Joint Secretary MoNHSR&C and Dr Mutahir Shah, Deputy National Coordinator TB were also present on the event.
Key stakeholders including bilateral and multi-lateral donors, National and International NGOs, policy makers, development partners, academia and media actively participated in the seminar.
 
Special Secretary Health MoNHSR&C Mr Mirza Nasir ud Din Mashhood Ahmad said that he is pleased to be part of World TB Day’s commemoration today and glad to see so many young faces whose presence itself is the achievement of today’s event. The Government of Pakistan is making concerted efforts to control TB in Pakistan. I believe that we as a nation can help in disseminating such information regarding tuberculosis among our communities. He also appreciated the efforts of the Common Management Unit in the fight against TB and said that he is very confident about the capabilities of the team leader.
